01Overview

Hangs between the crane hook and the load, giving an instant digital weight reading as the load lifts clear. Wireless remote display models are available so the operator can read the weight from the crane cab rather than the load itself.

02How it works

A tension load cell between hook and load

A crane scale hangs directly between the crane's hook and the rigging attached to the load, using a tension-type load cell — measuring pulling force rather than compression — since that's the physical arrangement a suspended load naturally puts it in. As the load lifts clear of the ground, the full weight transfers through the scale, and the digital display shows the reading instantly, before the load has even finished rising.

Wireless remote display solves a basic visibility problem

The scale's own display sits up at the hook, often well out of the crane operator's line of sight from the cab, especially on a tall gantry or tower crane. A wireless remote handheld display receives the same reading over a radio link, so the operator can read the load weight from the cab without craning their neck or relying on someone else to call out the number.

The overload alarm is a safety interlock, not just a warning light

As the reading approaches or exceeds the crane's or the rigging's rated capacity, the overload alarm alerts the operator before the lift proceeds further — catching a miscalculated or misidentified load weight before it becomes a rigging failure or a crane capacity violation, which is one of the more common causes of serious lifting accidents.

03Manufacturing & build quality

The tension load cell at the core of the scale is machined and strain-gauge-fitted to handle the specific loading geometry of a suspended hook — a different mechanical arrangement than the compression load cells used under a platform scale — and is housed in a rugged enclosure designed to withstand the knocks and rigging-chain contact that come with routine lifting use. The digital LED display is chosen and tested for readability in direct outdoor sunlight, a real requirement for equipment used on open construction sites and yards. Wireless remote display models are paired and range-tested during manufacturing, and the rechargeable battery system is validated for its rated runtime (typically 40-plus hours) before the complete unit — load cell, display, and battery — is calibrated and functionally tested under load before dispatch.
