02How weighing actually works here

One plant, many weighing points, one number that has to agree

A cement, steel, or heavy manufacturing plant rarely has just one scale — raw material comes in over a weighbridge, gets weighed again as it's batched or fed into a process (silo weighing, batching and mixing systems, tank weighing), moves through the plant on floor scales and crane scales, and leaves as finished goods over the same or a different weighbridge. Each of those points has to reconcile with the others, because a mismatch anywhere along that chain either represents real material loss or a metering error nobody's caught yet.

Continuous-duty equipment, not occasional-use scales

Where a general commercial site might weigh a few dozen vehicles a day, a cement or steel plant's inbound raw material and outbound product flow is often near-continuous across shifts, and process equipment like silo and batching systems is cycling constantly rather than being used intermittently. That duty cycle is why plant-wide weighing here is specified around continuous, industrial-duty equipment — heavier construction, more frequent calibration checks, load cells rated for sustained rather than occasional use — instead of equipment built for lighter, intermittent traffic.

ERP integration is the point, not an add-on

With multiple weighing points feeding one plant's production and inventory figures, manually reconciling each scale's output against the ERP or Tally system by hand doesn't scale past a very small operation. An indicator or digitizer with a direct ERP/SAP uplink means raw material receipts, in-process batch weights, and finished-goods dispatch all land in the same system automatically, so plant management can see material flow as one connected picture rather than as separate logs someone has to stitch together.

Multiple weighing points that quietly drift apart

When inbound, in-process, and outbound weighing points are calibrated and maintained independently rather than as one system, small discrepancies between them accumulate — and by the time anyone notices, it's hard to tell whether it's measurement drift, genuine process loss, or something worse. Consistent equipment specification and calibration scheduling across every point in the plant is what keeps the numbers reconcilable.

Intermittent-duty equipment wearing out under continuous load

Equipment specified for occasional use — a general-purpose floor scale asked to run a near-continuous batching cycle, for instance — wears and drifts faster than equipment actually rated for that duty cycle, leading to more frequent recalibration and eventually premature replacement.

Manual reconciliation between the scale and the ERP

Without a direct data link, someone has to key weighbridge and process-scale readings into the plant's ERP or Tally system by hand — slow, and a routine source of transcription errors that show up later as inventory or production figures that don't match what was actually weighed.

04Why it matters

In cement, steel, and heavy manufacturing, weight is the unit almost everything is measured, costed, and reported in — raw material intake, batch composition, finished goods dispatch, and the inventory figures a plant reports internally and externally all trace back to scale readings taken at multiple points across the site. If those points don't agree with each other, or if reconciling them against the ERP depends on manual data entry, the plant is running on numbers nobody can fully trust, and that uncertainty compounds every time material moves through another weighing point. Specifying continuous-duty equipment and a genuine system-wide ERP integration from the start is what keeps a busy plant's production and inventory figures actually representing what happened on the floor.

How do we keep multiple weighing points across the plant reconciled?

Standardize on the same class of equipment and the same calibration schedule at every point — weighbridge, silo, batching system, floor and crane scales — and route all of them through one ERP integration so discrepancies show up quickly rather than accumulating unnoticed across separate logs.

Can our existing Tally or SAP system connect directly to the weighing equipment?

Indicators and digitizers with RS232/RS485, Ethernet, or Modbus RTU communication support direct uplink to MIS, SAP, and ERP systems including Tally — the specific integration work depends on your system's import format and is typically set up once during commissioning.

What's the difference between silo weighing and tank weighing for our process?

Silo weighing measures dry bulk solids (cement, aggregate, powder) held in a silo via load cells under its support legs; tank weighing does the same for liquids or slurries in a tank — both give a continuous, real-time inventory reading rather than requiring a separate weighing step to check stock levels.

How often should plant-wide equipment be recalibrated given continuous use?

Continuous-duty equipment under sustained plant use generally warrants more frequent calibration checks than intermittent-use equipment — commonly at least annually, and more often for high-cycle process scales — since sustained mechanical and electrical stress accelerates whatever drift would otherwise show up gradually.

Do crane scales need separate calibration from the floor and weighbridge scales?

Yes — a crane scale's load path and mounting are entirely different from a floor scale's or weighbridge's, so it's calibrated and serviced as its own instrument, on its own schedule, even though it should ultimately reconcile with the rest of the plant's weighing data.
