The weighbridge is a gate, not a side task
In logistics and transport yards, weighing sits directly in the vehicle's path in and out — it isn't an extra stop, it's the gate itself. A truck arrives, its number plate or RFID tag is read, it crosses a pitless or foundation-less weighbridge, and the software issues a ticket referencing that weighment before the boom barrier lifts. At high-volume yards this whole sequence needs to run in well under a minute per vehicle, because every second a truck spends stationary on the deck is a second added to the queue behind it. The deck, indicator, and gate hardware are chosen together as one flow, not as separate purchases.
Two weighments, one net figure
Freight is typically billed on net weight — the difference between a truck's loaded (gross) and empty (tare) crossing. That means the same vehicle crosses the deck twice, and the indicator or digitizer has to hold the first reading against the vehicle's identity until the second crossing closes the transaction. A digitizer with onboard record storage matters here specifically because it's what lets that first-leg weight survive a shift change, a network blip, or a day's gap between inbound and outbound crossings without anyone re-entering it by hand.
Unmanned operation depends on the gate hardware, not just the scale

Reconciling billing against a spreadsheet nobody trusts
Where weighbridge data lives only in a local ticketing tool, someone still has to transcribe it into whatever system actually generates invoices, and transcription is where numbers quietly diverge from what was weighed. A digitizer or indicator with a direct ERP/MIS uplink removes that hand-off, so the billing system pulls the same figure the deck recorded.
