01Overview

For higher throughput than a semi-automatic line can sustain: multiple parallel filling stations on a conveyor line, automatic container indexing, and fill-to-weight dosing at each station.

02How it works

Parallel stations, not one fast station

Rather than trying to fill containers faster at a single station, a fully automatic line runs multiple filling stations — typically 2 to 6 — in parallel, each independently dosing to weight at the same time. Throughput scales roughly with the number of stations, which is a more practical way to reach high volume than pushing a single station's fill speed past what accurate weight-based dosing can reliably handle.

Conveyorized indexing keeps containers synchronized

Containers move along a conveyor and are automatically indexed — positioned and held — under each filling station in sequence, replacing the manual positioning step a semi-automatic line still requires. That indexing has to be precise, since each station's nozzle needs the container correctly aligned before dosing can begin.

Fill-to-weight accuracy holds at every station

Each station retains the same underlying fill-to-weight principle as a semi-automatic system — a load cell measures actual container weight and controls dosing to target — so moving to multi-station, high-speed operation doesn't trade away the accuracy benefit that makes weight-based filling worthwhile in the first place.

03Manufacturing & build quality

The line is built around a conveyor and indexing mechanism engineered to move and precisely position containers under each of the parallel filling stations, synchronized by a PLC-based control system that coordinates conveyor movement with each station's independent fill cycle. Each filling station is built to the same load-cell weighing and dual-stage dosing principle as a semi-automatic unit, but integrated with the shared control system rather than operating independently. The complete line is assembled and run through extended test cycles — verifying indexing accuracy, per-station fill accuracy, and overall line synchronization — before commissioning at the customer's site, since a multi-station automated line has considerably more that can go out of sync than a single manual station.

Throughput ceiling of manual or semi-automatic filling

A single operator-assisted station has a hard practical ceiling on containers per hour; parallel automated stations remove that ceiling by scaling station count to the required volume.

Labor cost of manual positioning at high volume

At high production volumes, the labor cost of manually positioning every container becomes significant — conveyorized indexing removes that labor requirement entirely from the filling step.

Consistency across large production runs

Manual processes introduce operator-to-operator and shift-to-shift variation; a fully automated line runs the same fill-to-weight logic identically across every container, regardless of who's on shift.

Changeover complexity across multiple SKUs

A line built for continuous production still needs to handle product or container changeovers — designing that changeover process well is part of what determines how much downtime a multi-SKU operation loses when switching products.

05Why it matters

Once an oil packaging operation reaches a certain volume, the question stops being whether automation is worth it and becomes how much of the line's throughput ceiling is being left on the table by manual or semi-automatic filling. A fully automatic, multi-station line is what lets production scale without accuracy degrading and without labor cost scaling linearly with volume — the economics of high-volume continuous production essentially depend on getting to this level of automation eventually.
